Brigit Ramsingh

Picture Brigit RamsinghBrigit Ramsingh is Lecturer in Food Safety Management at UCLan as part of the International Institute of Nutritional Sciences and Applied Food Safety Studies (iINSAFSs). She is an historian of food systems and for her PhD from the University of Toronto researched the development of international food safety standards, with particular focus on the UN’s Codex alimentarius (the “Food Code”).  She has worked in areas of food policy and food legislation at Health Canada’s Food Directorate as well as on the development of a framework for microbial food safety policy research in Canada.  Brigit has broad interests in food history and culture and has several on-going projects on “alternative food networks” (local and farmers’ markets, freeganism), food labelling, food hygiene rating schemes, and food redistribution initiatives to reduce food waste,
